The MLT will work primarily in our diagnostic center where medical care and diagnostic services are combined. It is a full-time position with potential evening or weekend shifts. The purpose of this position is to complete the enthusiastic and dedicated team of the Sint Maarten Diagnostic Center Laboratory (SMDC).


Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a critical role at SMDC by performing complex laboratory tests and analyses to aid in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This position involves collecting samples, conducting tests on blood, urine, and other bodily fluids, and interpreting results with accuracy and precision. The MLT will operate under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager.

The MLT performs the general responsibilities listed below:


Key Responsibilities

  • Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments.

  • Ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Documenting and reporting test results to physicians and healthcare professionals.

  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care.

  • Conducting research and staying updated on advancements in laboratory technology.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field

  • Certification from a recognized professional organization

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience

  • Completion of a clinical internship or practicum during the educational program

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work under pressure

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with complex laboratory equipment

  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation

  • Skills in using laboratory information systems (LIS).

  • Ability to interpret complex data and troubleshoot issues in test results.

  • Precision in conducting tests and recording results to ensure accuracy.

  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and emerging technologies, such as automation and molecular diagnostics.
